Doris;  I am in my third year of using Grass type Merit on the iris 
beds. I assume we are using much the same type. This year during 
cleanup after bloom I saw no cuts, no nibbled edges and no weep holes.
The only borer damage was in the front yard where I had stuck a few 
extras as filler in some bare spots in a perennial border. Don't get 
the attention the others get.

I am sold on Merit. It is a systemic and should not affect the 
earthworms. I have seen no damage to earthworms.
