An organic method that kills grass and usually benefits plants is a heavy organic mulch. Several inches as in lasagna gardening. Kills the weeds by blocking the sun from them. Put it around wanted plants so their bases aren't covered. Use leaves from trees, pine needles, wood chips, lawn clippings, shredded paper, newspaper or whatever you can get your hands on. Only problem is you have to keep adding mulch because it decays and enriches the soil -- not so bad, however.
