Shorter than expected bloom was the norm for me too. I'm in SW NC and no
salt spray. As with Glen, mild winter and chilly spring but no rash of
late frosts. I wonder if this might be main culprit. On many the first
stalks were very low & some flowers quite stunted. That improved later
even within the same clump but still even then heights were below what
expected. The plants themselves were in excellent form for the vast part.

As I have bemoaned before, last year the very mild winter plus _normal_
spring freezes lead to disaster. Virtually no stalks ever emerged from
the fan and soft rot was rampant. I think there was some bud loss this
year too since so many big sized fans & clumps never sent up a stalk,
oldies cvs and newies both. But no rot problem of note. Don't believe
over fertilizing N or under P is my problem.

What are others seeing? I am relatively new to serious iris collecting
and this is making me discouraged.
