Hi all.
Regarding the article in the New York Times, I looked for it yesterday
but didn't find it in our local (Hudson Valley) edition. I assumed that
the article was in a city edition or a New Jersey edition?
Coincidentally, the Hudson Valley Iris and Daylily Society visited the
Presby Memorial Garden yesterday. We had a wonderful time and the
garden, packed full of TB's in bloom, was drop-dead gorgeous. It is not
far from New York City and certainly worth a day trip if any of you are
in the area during bloom season. There are a few beds of relatively
recent introductions, but it seemed to me that they were mostly older
irises that are pretty much out of commerce today. They also have a good
representation of Dykes Medal Winners. The frustrating thing about the
garden was the haphazard labling of the irises. Many had no lables at
all and flowers were so close together I often couldn't tell which iris
the label was intended for.
Titan's Glory was getting a lot of attention from the visitors. It
could probably have won a ribbon for most often photographed with small
children, if such an award were offered. Personally, I really liked it.
It was incredibly BIG and dark. It's now on my want list (My Black
List?). But it definitely is not one that will be universally loved. I
overheard it referred to as a "scary iris". You might say that it is an
iris that is difficult to overlook.
