Thanks Sharon!  That makes a lot of sense.  Walter Moores responded off
list and pretty much said the same thing.  Since my seed pod was nearly 2
months old, and it withered away naturally (no snapped stalk, or broken
pod, etc.) then I'm going to assume that the seeds were mature...and
hopefully viable.
