I grew her in San Jose in the corner of the fence under a small Cherry tree.
She was vigorous, bloomed well and had good color despite the gravel infested
clay soil.

Now I grow the same plants in an open field three miles as the hawk flies
from Melrose Gardens. The soil is the same as Melrose but the watering is by
soaker hose rather than row irrigation. The blooms now have much paler color
intensity.

Late last May I saw a prize winning example in a garden under a canopy of
trees.Soil was slightly gravelly and I would suspect the Ph was on the acid
side.

Memory straining time! Does anyone remember whether it was in a shadier part
of the garden in San Jose or at Melrose Gardens?
