OK, the answer to this question WITHOUT EXCEPTION is that a vigorous white
variety has crowded out everything else. Iris don't "turn white". We've
been through this endlessly before--check the archives.
One is reminded of an enquiry to Charles Darwin 140 years ago. A gentleman
farmer wanted to know why "all the peas are on the wrong side of the pod
this year." Darwin responded by asking which was the correct side, but
never got a reply. The point being that a one-off observation by someone
who probably isn't paying much attention anyway is hardly a base on which
to cook up extraordinary explanations. One might as well postulate that
aliens came down during the night and replaced all the other iris with
white ones, or used their "white ray" to effect the change.
