Some of us have lost the thread in this discussion of 'tough'
judges.
No, I don't enter stalks with spent blooms, spider webs, only
one bloom and no buds, etc., etc., etc. Neither did the other
members of our society in the show that was so critically judged.
How come these same stalks got no ribbons in the first show yet
garnered blue in the second? Grooming had nothing to do with it
and weather very little.
Over the years, I have accumulated twelve silver medals and
eleven bronze medals and six queens and have been a judge for
twenty-three years. And, these honors were received in Dallas and
Fort Worth, where competition is keen. I know when a show has
been judged too critically but wonder why some judges are hell-
bent to find the most minute fault in every stalk and mark it down
Their eyes have been trained to look for faults and not for what is
good about a stalk.
'Let's see, how can I keep this from getting a blue?' seems to be
their attitude.
