I know I said I wasn't going to get into this discussion......
I was at a show once where (true story) EVERY iris was point scored! And,
furthermore - they were also looked up in the R & I. You needed time-lapse
photography to see movement.
In my opinion, point scoring is only necessary as a tie breaker - or perhaps
on the Queen's Table. Referencing irises in the R & I is only useful when a
judge believes an iris is misnamed or misplaced (TB in the BB section or some
such).
After that one show, we began a new addition to our judges' instructions - we
told them when the show was open to the public and asked them to pace
themselves accordingly. I have a strong streak of PT Barnum in me and I
don't like to see "live ones" discouraged.
