Oh isn't it cold! I was thinking of you, poor thing, out in the milking shed
this morning, and I in my wool doona, all warm and cosy.
I used to hand milk a house cow (Jersey), and remember snuggling up close to
the cow for extra warmth on those cold mornings. Of course I had the choice
of just leaving her calf with her overnight, if I didn't want to get up next
morning to milk.

I was surprised to see a jonquil in bloom in my garden last week. Usually
they appear in the first week of June. Dutch irises are well up,
and the muscari have been in leaf almost since they lost their last leaves.

Same here. I spent 2 hours in the garden yesterday morning, and ended up
with a trailer full of prunings and weeds.
Winter is the best time tend to weeds here, as you can grasp them and pull
them up roots and all (schlerp). (that's a sound a bit like pulling one's
foot out of a cow pat)
Fashion is fashion, only if it is appropriate to the activity involved.
There is a certain dress code for the garden, same as for anywhere else. Old
jeans, thick socks, gumbies, t-shirt and old jumper. Yesterday, I topped off
with a waterproof jacket. I don't wear gloves, and I could barely feel my
fingers after 2 hours.
My PCI's are ready to be transplanted from their jiffy pots - they are
almost leaning out the window looking for light. I also have quite a few
more Median seedlings showing through this morning.
Are you a member of the Victorian Iris Society Wendy? I don't get to
meetings in Melbourne, but they had one here in Castlemaine last week, and
are thinking of holding the country meeting either down your way or towards
Geelong next year. It was nice to meet everyone and talk irises.
Cheers, Jan
