Re: HYB: HOM crosses

Nice photo, Betty. I sort of remember/understand what Chuck was saying
about yellow/pink/orange pigments and heredity, but your photos (and my
own seedlings) help me remember.

What I meant about HARVEST OF MEMORIES is that I think Chuck said that
it doesn't have the precursors (or post-cursors, if that's a word) for
production of pink or orange pigments. The yellow it has is <not> the
yellow in the synthesis pathway for pink and/or orange pigments.

"We" (hah!) figured that out from the pigment extractions from the
seedling from HoM X SEAKIST. SEAKIST doesn't have that/those kind of
yellow pigments either.

I think "we" figured that out - will have to go back and re-read all the
discussion next winter when all the pollen/mold allergens are gone and
my brain works again. ... or at least works better...

Bloomed quite a few seedlings from HoM for the first time this spring,
mostly from older pollen donors. Seedlings from pink pollen donors
(JELLY ROLL, OCTOBER SPLENDOR, PINAFORE PINK) were either yellow
(mostly) or white. One seedling from WHOLE CLOTH bloomed - it was
white. One from SPANISH REBEL (brightly colored variegata) is a nice
smooth tan or light brown bitone. Two of the OCTOBER SPLENDOR seedlings
are sort of greenish cream, one with a blue beards.
