Hi, Jim. I wouldn't conclude that you can't grow plants of ANY aril
persuasion, but I think I might go with the arilbreds and especially aril
medians. I have had good luck with arilbreds ESTHER THE QUEEN, SHEIK,
BANGLADESH, KHYBER PASS, and MOHR PRETENDER. I won't mention the ones I
killed off--more numerous than the above survivors.

ESTHER and SHEIK are my favorities and I've been growing them for probably 10
years now. They don't THRIVE, mind you, but they do survive and bloom; with
bloom about 2 out of every 3 years. I think they would do even better if I
paid more attention to them. They have a special raised bed to grow in, with
a bunch of rock and gravel under about 10-12" of soil.

BANGLADESH is the most reliable one I have grown-bloomed every year.

2 or 3 years ago I bought a couple aril medians. HOOPLA and PRAIRIE THUNDER
have both done well for me. They are actually increasing, rather than just
replacing themselves. And both have flowers with a distinctly aril look. I
am so happy with them I will be looking for more.

Try some of these--seems like your climate is enough like mine that they
should do OK! Good luck!
