Re: AIS:Guest Gardens

John,

Yes, the Convention Handbook (available from AIS, and every club even
*thinking* about hosting a convention needs to look it over before extending
the invitation!), written a few years back by Ron Mullin, covers this.

We provided our gardeners with copies of that portion of the handbook, and I
know we discussed "to groom or not to groom" in at least 2 planning
meetings. But not all gardeners attended all the planning meetings, and
some flat forgot and cut back.

In my own garden, I would groom to the point of removing spent blossoms
interfering with the beauty and presentation of the blossoms freshly
opening. Figured I might as well, because the shutterbugs would do it for
me to get "that special shot"! Especially in the convention that was past
peak (as many in OKC were), it's kind of tacky seeing all those nekked bloom
stalks. But for the hybridizer touring around on convention, "evidence"
should be left so he/she can have an idea of how their baby *did* look
(general bud count, lousy or good branching, sulking plants, vigorous
grower, bloom-increase ratio, etc., etc.).

*After* the convention, *then* clean up the place and cut out the bloom
stalks. Ah, my project for *this* weekend.
