On Thanksgiving day it was 62 degrees so I was able to get them all heeled
back in. It was around 200 varieties and took me four hours. I think they
should do fine. The very next day it snowed! Oh the joys of Michigan
weather.

The reason I dug them up was the insane amount of weed pressure
including quack grass, sorrel, thistle, etc.. The reason I delayed digging
them is this. The house that my gardens are at was my moms house. She
moved to SD in December and rented the house out. The renter, a friend, ended
up not being a good renter so it became awkward for me to get there. I had to
wait until she moved out to get into the garden.

We just bought a house
and close Nov. 30th. Come spring I can move everything to my new place, whew!

Thanks for all the advice!

And if it's too wet to dig a place to
heel them in, just line them out on the ground and pile a really thick layer
of potting mix/compost over the roots. Or make the potting mix be a sort of
raised bed, crowd the irises together, making sure there are no air pockets,
soak it down good for the same reason. Leaf/branch mulch the whole thing.
