Several Arkansans are having good luck with it. Mary Ann King lets it run
wild out on a hillside above her place in London, Ark. Bob Ward has a large
patch in Little Rock that blooms for him every year. Sunday he mentioned
it's about to bloom now. Tom Dillard grows it.
I acquired a start this September. I've been warned it takes a long time to
establish, but I wonder if my clump will make it. Although parts are still
green, most of it is brown, and I have yet to see a new leaf.
It's in a south-facing sunny position beside a protective rock pile, in
lots of sand mixed into our yard dirt, a little compost and a little
alfalfa. We aren't hurting for rain lately; I haven't been watering it.
Mom says "where there's green there's hope," so I'm ignoring it in the hope
it won't go away.
