Generally the water species require light, but when you get to hybrids-- who
knows.
The number of plant species overall which require light or are indifferent is
much larger that those which absolutely require dark. How much light is
another matter and I'm not certain that the things don't adapt to environment
with regard to moisture. In any case the softening of any water iris seed is
not an ominous thing on the face of it. If you haven't cracked or partially
removed that corky covering you might do so.
