Hello Linda,
We order from Barry Blyth yearly. Maybe I can help with some of your
questions.

More than likely they won't bloom the same spring, hasn't happened for us
yet. They take a while to get adjusted, if they do at all. Most do great
after a year or two but some never seem to make the adjustment.

Don't know how they set theirs but I do know how we set ours. Usually a
higher priced intro means there is a smaller supply of it. Demand proir to
introduction will also have a lot to do with the price set. Some
hybridizers feel that if a particular flower has some outstanding attribute
it should be priced higher, HEAVEN, STARRING, STARSHIP ENTERPRISE and
IMMORTALITY come to mind. Production costs will affect intro price; ie.
what were water costs, labor, supplies.. etc. You would be surprised at how
much it costs to bring a new introduction to market.
(if anybody wants a more in-depth break-down of costs associated with new
introductions, e-mail me)

No miracle as far as I know. Like most hybridizers they can only tell you
how their iris do in their own gardens and the gardens they are testing
their iris in. Witching grows like a weed for us and Witch's Wand struggles
to survive.

If you read some of the descriptions you can figure out tidbits of info
about a particular flower like "if only it were a bit taller" or "branching
is a little tighter than we like" maybe even "medium sized flowers on tall
stalks" "extremely vigorous" Always good indicators of performance.
Mike - hope that helped a little.
