Nick: I can't imagine you could ever use "too much" compost in your vegetable garden. Not in most flower beds either, though iris don't like to be babied with soil that is too good. Mine, at least, seem to do better if they have to struggle a bit. For the other things like veggies, however, I have often planted things in pure compost, same for some perennials in pots, and they have always loved it.
