This is worth a try. Awfully hard not to water any area around
here when the droplets fall from the sky at astounding
intervals. :-)

Huh. My observation powers must be waning since I have used the
bleach method for years on bearded irises and they seem to be
doing ok. Maybe our natural watering system diposes of the
bleach and your arid climate lets it sit there and do harm?
