Hello Listers,
Thought I would report on my irrigation program. (The raised beds, soaker
hoses, etc.) Hoses were placed below the fabric on one bed and above the
fabric in the other--I forgot them with the one until the fabric was down
tight. They appear to have worked equally well, but the bed with the above
ground hose was inconvenient to water and held irises only so I didn't see
wilt down and it didn't get as much water. (You should have seen my water
bill!) This was my seedling bed.
The well watered bed held Summer Radiance (Wilkerson 96), and it gave a bloom
stalk in June and another in late July. From Lemon Reflection and
Hindenburg, it is bright yellow and pleases me more each time I see it.
Unfortunate that I had a significant amount of stock taken when I was moving
last year.
In the seedling bed, the only one to rebloom is Star Gate, and again I
lost/left much of the stock in the move--I'd decided not to introduce it. It
is performing well now. Prolific bloomer with many buds and good branching
but less than perfect form. (Feedback x Violet Miracle)
Raised beds and fabric worked well. No weeds and no rot.
Droughts make for less than productive summers.
I'm getting ready to leave for a class reunion some 300 miles from home, so
I'll click back in next week.
