The person to whom this question could be addressed is Keith Keppel. He has
the Shoop records to the extent to which they survive.
The matter isn't really weighty--just go with the pedigrees and ignore the
seedling number. It could be a typo, an error of entry from Shoop in his
registration application, or a missing piece of information.
It is remarkable that the pedigree is the same on both sides for SNOW PEACH,
with two successive generations on the one side of crosses reversed in
direction from the other. That's an interesting pattern of inbreeding.
Since few characteristics of consequence for phenotype are inherited from
non-nuclear DNA the reversal of parentage is of little consequence. Whenever
possible I try to make a cross both directions. I don't recall any times of
those that took there was significant difference between the two groups of
seedlings.
The non-nuclear DNA is inherited only from the mother and is primarily
responsible for extra-nuclear structures such as cellular membranes which
include the cell wall, the endoplasmic reticulum, the golgi apparatus, and so
on, and the organelles such as mitochondria and plastids.
In work with aril hybrids such things have considerable consequence. Within
the broad range of Eupogons, they do not seem to have much effect.
