The RIS Checklist, say the 2012 version, it is a cumulative checklist for the lifespan of all reporting years or is just representing that year?
Is it our best hope for a community dataset whereby to substantiate category of rebloom "dependability"?

Good question, Chuck. & not one I'd try to answer, either for genetics or for garden information. For my highly variable climates, in order to say for sure that an iris is a reliable rebloomer here, I would want to grow it for 3 or 4 yrs after first bloomstalk, without dividing. I wouldn't know what to call it if it rebloomed <one> of those years. If I grew it 10 yrs and it rebloomed twice, I still wouldn't know. One of the values of the rebloom checklist is that even tho you can't tell how often it reblooms in one place, if it's reported for a lot of states/countries USDA zones, they it's probably safe to call it a real rebloomer. So a single time reblooming for Shaub, with no obvious rebloom genetics, may not mean much, but if half a dozen people report rebloom, even if it's sporadic, maybe it becomes useful information. On 9/30/2014 10:30 AM, Chuck Chapman wrote:As bloom is a complex relationship of genetics and environment there can be an odd situation where a plant will bloom twice in a season. The question is then how many examples of twice bloom in a season do we need to classify an iris as a rebloomer. Is a one time report enough to classify it as a rebloomer? As versus a one off misfire of bloom codes in response to an unusual growing season? I'll have to trust it's to label since I am not not familiar with the full field of MTBs. Will post a pic to the photos listserve in a few days. It has been a good year for me rebloom wise so we'll see how it does next year. So we can avoid any false double reports, FYI I am a RIS member so I'll be reporting it to Region 4 when they ask for submittals. It will be under Shaub Dunkley, Candler NC. (Z6b) Another surpriser on the way! Western Hills (per source) (1 yo clump) has three stalks budding out. RIS '12 shows only VA z6 reporting it so far. I really expected it to be very sporadic and to perhaps never see it rebloom for me. BTW folks, I'm into the historic remontants and carriers. I'm looking to network with people to help get the endangered ones back on their feet. You too? Chat me up. I'm a HIPS member as well. They may neverrebloom in the hybridizer's garden, but move it around and you never know. Thanks for reporting it! I have an email intoWildwood Gardens where I bought it. There are stalks on different fans so it not a sporadic sort of rebloom. I will say the height of the spring stalks are not nearly the 18" of the Eregistry description but short stalks are normal for me. The flower looks like AF to me, I am just surprised to see rebloom sinceIhaven't a reference to it doing so, including the 2012 RIS Checklist.
