Over the last few years I have found that Belvi Cloud is one of the most
reliable rebloomers here. It always does an early rebloom, have not seen it
miss a rebloom yet. Belvi Cloud has been reblooming for about a month now
and is still producing stalks from clump to clump. The stalks and flower are
usually well formed.
Last year in the heat wave many varieties that usually rebloom did not, but
several of the standbys did. The rebloom this year is looking better.
Immortality is finally showing a stalk. I have heard some comments that some
varieties need to be replanted every year to rebloom better, like Forever
Blue for instance, while others seem to do better if left a second year.
The year after we had a tremendous deep cover of snow (winter '87) we had a
phenomenal rebloom so I don't know if that has influence as well. I am
thinking that it can be a complex blend of conditions both climatic, soil,
and culture. Main thing seems to be sufficient heat or what I suppose they
call heat units in the north. That is the number of days or period of time
above a certain temperature.
Forever Blue, the two years that I have seen it in action, would now have to
steal the crown as the best rebloomer. It has been almost continous in
nature of rebloom. FB is finally taking a rest now. I have had it planted
the last two years in spots where due to the solar angle in fall, it
receives some shade. I am wondering how it will do if I get it into 100 %
full sun for the length of season.
