Medit-Plants folks -
Just wanted to jump in here and lend 'official' support for the work
Carol has been doing on the Bay Area Gardener site. She has done a
fabulous job and the site does full a huge need for our local
horticultural situation. Years ago, she and I talked at length about
our similar ideas for web sites. It is wonderful to see The Bay Area
Gardener mature into such a useful resource. I only hope that my own
web site development becomes as useful (still in its infancy). Our
two sites will be aligned but with different expressions - we think
they will be very complimentary.
The comprehensiveness of which Carol speaks is an important point.
We both agreed that there was a real need to provide this type of
information to the public outside of each group's membership - else
how on earth would anyone ever find out about these groups! I think
this point should be taken to heart more by the organizers. And the
wonderful thing about Web technology is that you can get to the
information all of the time, not just if you happened to receive that
issue of the newspaper, or you hadn't accidentally 'read' that
message on a newsgroup (most settings don't show you 'read' messages).
Anyway, I encourage all of you to check out her site when you can
(http://www.gardens.com). It is certainly worth evaluating whether
this existing resource can support the newsgroup activity that
Cyndi has proposed. In short, my hat's off to Carol and her team
for all of their hard work over the past months!
