Festuca glauca

Richard,

John Greenlee, our Grass Guru, tells us to clip the plants back 3 to 4
inches from the crown in fall or early spring, never in summer as they
may not recover. He (and other grass specialists) also recommend
lifting and dividing the plants every other year, which is the pattern I
follow, easy to finger-prune out the dead growth while doing so, as I
never seem to get around to grooming them properly in spring, far too
many other things to do.

Good luck.

Clumps of Festuca glauca are looking ratty this time of the year, mid-winter,
zone 9. There are many dead leaf blades amongst the blue/green ones. I have
never cut it back, so I wonder, can I cut the whole bunches back to an inch
or two of blades, like mowing lawn grasses, and will the bunches come back?
