Susannah - I don't know 'your' Lepechinia. The ones I know are S.
Africans - L. floribunda, L. hastata, etc. These start easily in a
couple of weeks or so, sown in a gritty compost at about 65F daytime,
45/50F nighttime. I'm hoping (but not expecting!) that they'll prove
hardy in my mild but alas all too wet climate. So far they're growing
vigorously on the bathroom windowsill! (Who needs light for a bath? I
KNOW where my body is...) Flowers (in photographs; not yet in the
plant-flesh) look handsome. Worth persevering with! Like Deborah, I
wonder if L. fragrans in fact is a US native?
Best wishes
