Hi Annie,
Thanks for the offer of Dais, yes I would like one. I
will have to check to see if the one at Strybing has
bloomed and get back to you, I don't recall seeing it
in bloom, but know that it is hardy enough here. I'll
let you know when I find out more.
I have also seen Tecoma stans blooming up in the
mesoamerican section at UC Berkeley Botanic Garden, so
it is possible to grow it here, but it really needs
heat to do well. I wouldn't advise it except for a
really hot spot out of the wind, as it is a shy
bloomer without a little help. It would kind of
defoliate in
Riyadh during the winter, when the night time lows
dipped below 50F, and didn't start really blooming
again until it warmed back up into the 70'sF during
the day. Winter is pretty brief in Riyadh, so that
was only about a 6/7 week period...
Interesting about the Bolusanthus, I would have
guessed that this one also prefers heat, and is
probably why San Marcos Growers stopped production.
The photos look incredible, wonder whether it would
take the frosts of our central valley?
Will talk to you later,
David
