Dear Nan
No suggestions, but I can sympathize.
25 years ago, when I first started gardening and thought that any plant that I could purchase and plant in my garden would have the decency to flourish just because I loved it, I planted what was sold as a Siberian apricot. It has matured into a beautiful tree. with beautiful bark and marvelously scented (very early) flowers. However, I don't think I have had more than ten or twenty apricots in all those years. I live in Portland Oregon, Zone 8, where there is usually a frost and/or heavy rains before the fruit start to develop and the flowers usually get washed out before they can form fruit. However, in those years when there are fruit, they are the best damn apricots I have ever tasted. So my plan is to keep the tree as an ornamental as long as it lasts, and enjoy the anticipation.
All the best
Anna Ingre

Hi all I have an apricot tree that has been in the ground for at least 9 years. It has a lovely shape, but in all that time, has produced probably 6 fruit. I am in an intermediate climate between coastal and inland San Diego (probably sunset zone 23) and this tree sits in a cool spot in my yard. It is a Katie apricot grafted with at least a half dozen other varieties, all forgotten by now. I am ready to take it out but before I do, I am wondering whether anyone has any other suggestions. I hate to take out a mature tree. Any suggestions? Nan
