My experience with deer in Berkeley is that they eat any ceanothus,
heuchera and ribes, so I'm surprised that they are on deer proof lists.
They don't eat my native iris & grasses. I also try to have aromatic and
grey leaved plants, so atriplex(salt bush) is OK, fremontodendron OK. I
try to avoid plants that I know they like, like roses, because they will
tramp all over my other plants, and take unwelcome notice of them, on
their way to such goodies.
