Re: Malodorous plants
OK... This one is so silly I guess I have to join in. Years ago I
bought a small stapeliad that was in with some other succulents, including
some hoodia sp, among others, and my house-mate carefully repotted it and
tossed the label. Much to my consternation, I might add, since I really
hadn't a chance to see what 'they' thought it was and so forth. So I
quizzed her on what it was. "A Hoodla!" she smilingly replied. And so
it got its name in our house. But, since I was pretty sure it was a
stapeliad, its full name warped into Spidelia Hoodla Rhumba. I'll admit it
was a better sounding name than whatever was on the label.
It bloomed after a few years. About 10 cm across and a very striking
lightish green with deep burgundy markings. And it smelled VERY icky.
And it died shortly after that, whether from natural causes or from over-
watering, I don't know. But it was a fun memory. Thanks to the group
for reminding me of it!
