Re: What to visit in Oz?

The Botanic Gardens in Sydney (incl Mt Annan south of Sydney and Mt Tomah in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney), Canberra and Melbourne are all worth visiting. It's 20+ years since I lived in Melbourne so can't offer any further ideas there, except that there are some wonderful gardens in the Mt Macedon area (cool temperate type gardens).

If you have the opportunity to travel by car from Sydney to Canberra (only 3 hours) some time in Bowral/Mittagong to visit to some of the Southern Tablelands gardens are well worth while (cool temperate again). Bowral has a tulip festival in late September and many of the area's gardens (ie Buskers End, Kennerton Green, Moidart) are open.

Another suggestion is to get hold of the "Australian Open Garden Scheme" guidebook, the new edition will be out in August and readily available in newsagents, because there will be gardens open in all three cities in spring, and you may find a wider range of private gardens to visit.

A visit to Western Australia to see the wildflowers (I've been told this should be a good year) is a must, and there are lots of tours available through travel agencies.

I'd be happy to get more information for you if you'd like me to.
