Re: San Francisco and East Bay Garden Conservancy Open Gardens

In case anyone is interested, there are 18 gardens
open this weekend for the annual Garden Conservancy
Open Gardens Tour, open without advance reservations
on either Saturday, June 2, 2001 for San Francisco
Gardens, or Sunday, June 3, 2001 for East Bay Gardens.
Each garden costs $5 to see, and includes a variety
of garden types. One of my favorite client's gardens
is again on the Tour this year, Susan Springer-James
Jacobs Garden at 1341 Haskell St, Berkeley(open Sunday
2-6pm, and I'll be there as well after the Cal Hort
Plant Sale is over, between 3~6pm). Susan describes
the garden as a painterly oasis, juxtaposing the
subtropical with the arid. If you like bold color,
don't miss it, the Alstromeria is in massive bloom, as
well as many Aloes, Proteas, Aeoniums, Crassulas,
Cotyledons, Cacti, Lavatera, Bougainvillea, etc. The
mature Agave parryi, Golden Barrel Cactus, Dasylirion
longissima and D. wheeleri are also quite nice.
