The only outdoor Sansiverias I have ever seen were in their native Africa, where it never seems to grow out in the open, but prefers to lurk in the shade of clumps of bushes out on the dry savanna. I should think that the position in dry shade with bright indirect light would suit it to a T. (It would also be excellent at discouraging burglars too!!)Hi Nan, We used to have a whole knee high forest of Sanseveria, growing on the shady side of a massive Jade hedge. It thrived with no care in unamended caliche. Probably would have been a little better-looking with some water. Easy as pie here in North East LA. (of course I ripped it all out and now wish I could have a little back!)
I must say when I came to NZ I was quite astonished to meet it as a house plant where I think it tends to look more grim and threatening than attractive.
