If my plant from Einion (originally plants, pl, but one didn't make it) is
seed-grown then the growth rate is even more impressive. From seed in 2000,
Einion? In which case, from zero to 4ft+ in around 15 months. That's almost
up to Olearia lirata or even Asterotrichion discolor standards...
I wonder why Himalayan and Tasmanian shrubs like these seem to grow in
English west coast conditions with such outlandish rapidity whereas Chilean
ones, while doing extremely well, grow at much more sedate rates. Theories,
anyone?
BTW, I don't know if this is of interest to anyone here but the British seed
and plant firm, Ray Brown's PlantWorld, is offering in its new 2002 seedlist
'lucky dip' packets of seed of Andean shrubs, A. climbers, A. bulbs (mostly
collected by RB on his expeditions to, particularly, Chile). I don't have
detailed info on the contents yet - but I shall have! If anyone would like
it (and contact details for PlantWorld), just let me know.
