Re: Lawn replacement ideas please ???

Hi everyone,

Thank you very much for all your replies and the great ideas. I will
have to do some research on some of these plants as I do not recognise
them. Local availability has also to be considered. Strangely
enough I have never seen Bulbines for sale but they can be seen in
many gardens locally as they are so easy to propagate as David pointed
out. If only other favourites were as easy!

I should have pointed out that I am reducing grassed areas and these
new beds will be no walk areas. Sorry for the confusion. I will
still have a lawn of about 20 sq. metres of lawn (gramma) which
although being fairly drought resistant still requires adequate
irrigation to look its best. One day that will probably disappear as
well.

I am rather surprised to see so many new lawns being laid considering
the lack of Summer rain and the cost and the quality of the available
water and of course the constant maintenance required.

I was waiting for the Autumn rains which are overdue before work can
begin on the new beds.

Again many thanks ,
Maria
