I am not an authority of turf, but the following web page:

   http://www.watercorporation.com.au/environment/lawns.html

seems to indicate what I have also hear that Buffalo grass is pretty
shade tolerant while being heat and drought tolerant as well. There may
be others.

As a landscape designer, I am curious what your situation might be, and
why you are seeking shade tolerant grasses. I seem to generally advocate
the possible elimination of lawns with my clients, who more or less
ubiquitously feel that lawns are 'NECESSARY', when in fact there are
various other ways to satisfy the need without such a lot of work.

I am also forwarding this to the Medit-Plants e-mail forum so that
the knowledgeble people there might also respond to your query.

Good luck!,
