Won't swear to tree peonies, but many/most blooms change color as
they age on most plants. One that springs to mind is about any
hellebore x hybridus. All of them age to greenish, no matter what
color they are and the open a slightly different color than they
become when the flowers are mature. On some plants, the change is
slight and hardly noticeable with the naked eye at 60mph zoom by, but
on others, it's quite noticeable and often a feature of the flower.
Not only do flowers change color within their growing season, they
are often different colors on immature plants than on mature ones.
I'd give your peony another season before passing judgment on whether
the flowers are completely wrong...save your email and the reply from
the nursery so you can copy them if it turns out that your plant
wants to be solid red.
