buttercup?

 
Hi everyone.  I was given a plant a few years ago that was passed from several people and the only name I have it "buttercup"  It apparently reseeds itself.  From one small plant, I now have hundreds coming up as I did last year.  It grows to about two feet and has lots of yellow flowers on it.  Anyone know what it may be?  I know I'm not describing it very well, but my if noone knows it by the name buttercup I will give a better description when it  blooms this year.  I have searched a lot of books, but can't find it.
