<< Hello,
I am collecting seed from plants of Penstemon "Husker Red" since seed
availability has been limited somewhat. Can it be sowed right away after
cleaning the seed or does it have to be chilled? I have sowed seed bought
from commercial sources and have always chilled it, but I read somewhere
that
some perennial seed can be sowed fresh without chilling.
Thanks>>
Al, You can sow the seed as soon as it's ripe. Germination is in 10-30
days, they like to be grown on the cool side when young. Save the darkest
colored plants and throw out the greenest. Some of the seed sources have
poor quality seed because of poor culling.
