Hello Susan,
I wait until the hard freezes are over in late winter and then cut mine back
to about 18". Coming into bloom now . companions are fall blooming anemone between
it and the path, and framed on one side by goldenrod cultivar "Fireworks". Long
gold streamers of yellow sure work well with the light blue of the foliage and
blooms.
