Re: seed collection

I have had some luck hanging the stalk upside down and drying 'til late
fall and then broadcasting the seed.  It is worth while to note though,
that it's very early for Hollyhock seeds and you might not get any viable
seeds.  Also, I've never had a hollyhock come back true to the original
plant . . .there's usually some tiny variation; color, shape, or
hardiness.

And what is it, does any one know, that makes the leaves of my hollyhocks
lacey and look eaten at this time of the year??  Is it fungus, rust,
mildew or bugs?  By the time fall comes, all that is left of the leaves
are the veins.  Doesn't hinder flowering at all - just the leaves look
horrible.
