I did it last year-- kept 6 "Purple Wave" petunias on the windowsill. I
cut them back and potted them and put them in a south window. They
survived, (bloomed a bit indoors too)  and have been blooming outdoors
again this year, but the growth isn't as nice as it was the first year. I
don't know if it was due to the wintering over or if other factors are at
work (the geraniums in the same pot aren't doing as well as usual either,
so it may be the weather, etc.). With a greenhouse you may well have
better luck.
Haven't tried training the petunias, but maybe if you're diligent in
tying it up?
