Another tip is to mow in a comfortable pattern
in the area you're wanting to make the bed for
several mowings. Then you'll know you have
no impossible curves to make later and you can
get a better "visual" of the shape, etc. As the
grass grows longer in the unmowed "future bed,"
it makes it very clear where to put down the
yard debris/compost, etc. Works very well for
deepending a bed or re-edging beds that you are
reclaiming from encroaching grass, too. Easy to
edge.
