Hi everyone
An article by Jean Vernon in the current RHS monthly, "The Garden", mentions
that examples from the British National Collection of Rudbeckia and
Echinacea can be viewed at Elton Hall plant fair, Elton, nr Ludlow,
Shropshire, on 5th Sept. They are close relatives, with the prominent
central cone and ray florets - that shuttlecock look - and both called
coneflowers. The Ech. selections in catalogues are firmly marked HP, but
most Rud. hirta are dithered about, exactly as people have pointed out. I'm
hoping there'll be an expert answer about "Indian Summer" at the fair. Does
anyone know how Prof. Rudbeck, 17th c. botanist in Upssala, gave the family
his name?
