Hi Pat,
I'm with Don, same offer. I cannot think of any burgundy species that are
for sale in the catalogs we generally see. If the flowers are small and
graceful with spare foliage, there are a few close to that color. A few of
these are a bit over ten inches but it would be noticed that the petals are
not of heavy substance.
I have never seen hybrid tulips establish in the North. If you have
something doing well for you, hang on to them. There are a series of hybrids
called Kaufmanniana, Greigii and others that have unusual shape and are short
compared to the common hybrid classes. You may have the perfect place for
one of these. Someday you will see them in a catalog or on a site and know
what you have. There are many things I have ID'd that way, by accident after
years of asking around.
Any bulb that likes your garden well enough to multiply is your special good
luck.
