Barb,
How hardy is "Homestead Purple" in your region. I tried to grow it here in
Cincinnati, but it died out last winter at -5 F and I but tried another
supposedly hardy zone 5-6 verbena "Sissinghurst Pink" a few years back and
it died at zero degrees. I had a seed grown canadensis hyb called "Toronto"
come back a couple of years ago but we had very mild winter with temps not
going below 5 F.
Ironically enough in the same area, Agastache cana (zone 7 plants) and
triphylla fuchsias (zone 8 plants ) came back.
There are lot of canadensis hybs coming out on the market now but I haven't
rated the hardiness. I like the fernleaf type like the Tapien series, but
these are definitely more tender, but they resist mildew a lot better.
