Have some large planters that are kept for a few years that have perennials
in them and in the spring are filled with annuals and placed on the patio. Use
short growing hems, Viola corsica, Lamium, lamastrium, Vinca major and
minor, nepeta. When fall comes the pots just are moved under the tarps with all
the other potted plants, the "annuals" all die but the perennials make it over
the winter.
