Pink / orange in the tropics

Re tropical paradise.... Umm, Rental?

Re orange and pink--my friend and I buy $$$$ of delicately-colored peach and
apricot and other blended daylilies every year, and plant them in our own
gardens (in my case 1 MILE away from the shop, and in her case, 20 miles)
and they come up plain old orange next year. Almost all the time.

1. The grower knows his soil amendments. I stick things in the ground and
leave them, which is why I'm partial to daylilies in the first place. (no
deer)

2. Past that, it beats me. I'm guessing different conditions could take
something apricot and turn it pink, too, but daylilies are all going to go
to orange, rather than pink, if they have a choice.
