Re: Rooting Pussy Williows was: Valentine bouquets

Donna, by now you've probably read Marge's method of rooting pussy willow in
moist sand which is the recommended method. I would wait to take cuttings after
the "pussys" or flowers are over. Willows are the easiest of all things to root;
I think we had a discussion here at one time about using water that has had
chopped up willow soaked in it to use to root other plants.

 Years ago my mother stuck a barely rooted twig of weeping willow in her back
yard -- 20 years later it was taller than the house and invaded the sewer pipes
every spring requiring Roto-Rooter services! Not a yard tree.

There are several pretty cultivars of pussy willow with colored or large catkins
-- I think I would rather buy one of these than root the standard wild variety.
Check the catalogs.
