Re: Beth Chatto's garden

Wildly guessing, perhaps Polygonum amplexicaule.  A lot of different
Polygonums are grown in the UK that we never see listed this side of
the pond.  Have seen some lovely ones in full flower in mid to late
September.  Squinted hard at the photo and first guess was 
Polygonum, so dug up here 'Damp Garden' and looked up what she had in
the index...this one fits the bill most closely.

If the leaves looked more like an Astilbe, it could also be A.
taquetii 'Superba' from the flower heads.

But...these are pretty wild guesses as the photo isn't clear enough
to really make out the plant well....
